Miriam Lyle, founder of The Story Factory, is a native Canadian residing in Spain. With over 20 years of professional and volunteer experience in the NGO and non-profit sector, Miriam is committed to promoting Human Rights, especially of children. As a project manager she has carried out international development programs and training courses in both Africa and Latin America, international and local volunteer programs, as well as Education for Development and Global Citizenship projects in Spain, where she offers workshops and courses aimed at students, teachers, and families concerning the environment, responsible consumerism, gender equality, Agenda 2030, Human Rights and volunteering.
Miriam holds a Bachelor’s degree in Women Studies and a Master in International Development Cooperation, Expert in Education for Solidarity and specialized studies in project monitoring and evaluation of projects and Corporate Social Responsibility. She also has broad experience in theatre, creative writing, and storytelling and has participated in numerous plays and short films; she can be seen reading her poetry and short stories at open mic events throughout Madrid. Creativity and personal artistic expression permeate all of her activities.
In 2015, Miriam took a step further to combine creativity, art, and theater in the form of stories intended to raise awareness in schools. To this end she founded The Story Factory, which has delivered over 100 storytelling sessions and creative workshops on various topics in autonomous communities including Madrid, Navarra, the Basque Country, Aragon, Asturias, Extremadura, Castilla la Mancha, Castilla y León, and Andalucía.
Cognizant of the potential of artistic expression in all its forms (spoken word, writing, drawing, photography, theater) – allowing children, youths, and adults to tell their own stories and observations of reality – Miriam integrates creative tools into the identification, design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of projects in Africa and America, in order to enhance the participation and empowerment of children and women in the promotion of their Human Rights.
And the work has only just begun, because we all have something to say.
Because we all have something to listen to and we all have something to learn.
The Story Factory is here to help!
